Federal agents raid Los Angeles homes in $2 billion healthcare fraud case
More than a dozen charged in California for allegedly siphoning nearly $2 billion from healthcare programs, including Medicaid.
Federal agents conducted early morning raids at multiple homes in Los Angeles on Thursday as part of a major healthcare fraud investigation, the Daily Gazette reported.
Authorities have charged over a dozen people in California with allegedly siphoning close to $2 billion in fraudulent healthcare costs, according to the Department of Justice and state prosecutors.
The operation targeted substance abuse treatment centers, hospice services, and surgeons, with at least six doctors involved. One doctor is accused of performing unnecessary surgeries to bill Medicaid for over $100 million.
This crackdown aligns with President Donald Trump's administration efforts to end abuse of federal programs, including a recent $25 million initiative to encourage whistleblowers to report suspected fraud.
The raids and charges mark a significant step in addressing public benefits fraud in California, with federal agents actively pursuing those allegedly involved in these schemes.
