Chanthal Harris opened Long Dark House, a bookstore dedicated to horror and supernatural genres, in Alexandria, Virginia just over a month ago. Harris reports steady traffic from both longtime horror fans and newcomers, with visitors appreciating the curated selection and discovering unexpected titles, according to iowapublicradio.org and wcsufm.org.

Harris, who has loved horror since childhood, transitioned from a career in aviation to pursue her passion for the genre. She expressed gratitude for the enthusiastic response from customers, saying the store has exceeded her expectations.

Market research by Nielsen indicates that profits from the horror genre have increased by nearly 26 percent year over year. This growth is reflected in the success of films like Backrooms, which grossed over $400 million worldwide on a $10 million budget, as reported by the sources.

Backrooms began as a YouTube short and was produced by the newly merged studio Blumhouse Atomic Monster. The studio is led by Abhijay Prakash, president and CEO of Blumhouse Atomic Monster, and Michael Clear, president of Atomic Monster, who also oversees the studio’s emerging directors program.
