A Washington, D.C. man, Jerrell Lamont Jackson, 41, faces federal charges after allegedly shooting a Georgia National Guard member during an altercation outside Cafe 8 hookah bar on Barracks Row. The incident occurred shortly after 11 p.m. on Sunday, when National Guard members intervened to break up a fight.

Jackson reportedly opened fire during the fight, striking one Guard member in the leg. The guardsmen returned fire, injuring Jackson in the abdomen. Both were treated for non-life-threatening injuries, with the Guard member released from the hospital.

Federal charges filed against Jackson include assault with a dangerous weapon and two felony gun charges for possessing a firearm as a felon and possessing a firearm during a crime of violence. Jackson has a prior history of weapons charges and was previously sentenced to 10 years in prison for shooting a special police officer in 2014.

Court documents reveal that surveillance footage captured Jackson leaving Cafe 8, engaging in a fight, shooting into a nearby smoke shop, and exchanging gunfire with the National Guard members as he fled down an alley.

This incident marks the second high-profile shooting involving National Guard members in Washington, D.C. within a year, following a fatal shooting last November.
