USS Abraham Lincoln leaving San Diego for Bremerton home port
The aircraft carrier will shift home ports later this year after a long deployment in the Middle East.
The USS Abraham Lincoln, which has been based in San Diego since January 2020, will permanently relocate its home port to Bremerton, Washington, later this year, according to the U.S. Navy and local news reports including Times of San Diego and FOX 5 San Diego.
The carrier recently returned to San Diego on October 8 after a near-record deployment of 286 days at sea without a port call, supporting military operations in the Indo-Pacific and Middle Eastern theaters. This deployment was the second-longest since the Vietnam War, with over 300 consecutive days overseas.
The relocation is part of a long-planned maintenance availability for the ship. The move will be executed as a permanent change of station for the crew and their families, as stated by the U.S. Pacific Fleet on social media.
The USS Abraham Lincoln served as the flagship for Carrier Strike Group 3 while homeported at Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, safeguarding critical sea lanes during its deployment.
The departure marks the end of the carrier's home port presence in San Diego, a significant naval hub in Southern California.
