3M recalls 53,600 laminators over fire risk
3M recalls Scotch-brand thermal laminators sold online due to overheating and fire hazards, urging users to stop use and seek refunds.
3M is recalling about 53,600 Scotch-brand thermal laminators, model TL1302Z, after reports of the units overheating, smoking, melting, and even catching fire, according to fox13news.com and fox7austin.com.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) received 63 reports of problems with the laminators, including five incidents where the devices caught fire and one report of minor property damage. The laminators were sold on Amazon.com between July 2024 and September 2026 for prices ranging from $44 to $56.
The recalled laminators are light gray and white with gray accents, feature the word "Scotch" on the front, have a 13-inch laminating slot, and a carrying handle on the right side. The model number TL1302Z is located on a sticker on the bottom of the unit and on the packaging.
Consumers are advised to stop using the laminators immediately and unplug them. They can contact 3M for a full refund by calling the toll-free number 800-772-4337 during Central time business hours or request a refund online through 3M's website under "Recall Information."
When requesting a refund, customers must complete an online recall registration form, confirm their laminator is part of the recall, and upload a photo showing the unplugged power cord has been cut. Users should dispose of the units following local and state electronic recycling laws.
