Camp Pendleton brush fire 50% contained after burning 3,160 acres
The Henderson Fire at Camp Pendleton has destroyed one structure and forced Interstate 5 closures, officials report.
The Henderson Fire at Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton has grown to 3,160 acres and is now 50% contained, according to Cal Fire and City News Service.
The wildfire, first reported Thursday, prompted evacuations at the North County Marine base and led to closures of stretches of Interstate 5.
Firefighters worked overnight to build handlines in Las Pulgas Canyon and used dozers to improve control lines along the fire's northwest side, tying into existing roads.
Cal Fire noted that fire activity slowed overnight due to decreased wind speeds and increased humidity, and the reported acreage increase reflects better mapping.
Today, crews will focus on extinguishing hot spots along the northern fire perimeter and interior areas, while a heat advisory remains in effect until 8 p.m.
