The number of families seeking assistance to afford Christmas presents is rising, according to Charlotte Riley, who organizes the Christmas Kindness Appeal Jersey through Facebook, BBC Business reported.

Since starting the appeal in 2024, Riley has collected and distributed donated gifts to families with children up to 18 years old, noting a steady increase in demand each year.

Riley attributes the growing need to factors such as unemployment, ill health, and the high cost of living, which have led more families to reach out for support.

Alongside the rising demand, there has also been an increase in volunteers helping with deliveries, pickups, and collections, including some past recipients who now give back to the cause.

Donations accepted during a three-week window include clothes, food, essentials, and gifts, with efforts made to involve parents by providing wrapping paper and labels to make them part of the process.
