Pope Leo XIV has been medically cleared to continue with his planned trip to Uruguay, Argentina, and Peru from November 6 to 17, according to ABC News and CBS News. This decision comes three weeks after the pope underwent surgery to remove a malignant lung tumor, with doctors confirming no medical reasons prevent his travel.

The Vatican press office stated that the pope's recovery is progressing well and that he will maintain the original ambitious itinerary. The trip includes approximately a dozen flights and two helicopter rides, including a visit to Cuzco, Peru, which is situated at over 11,000 feet above sea level, a factor that could pose challenges for someone recovering from lung surgery.

Pope Leo XIV, who is 71 years old, has gradually resumed his activities since surgery and has adjusted his schedule to prioritize rest and recovery. His physician, Luigi Carbone, confirmed there are no contraindications for the upcoming apostolic journey. The pope expressed gratitude for the support received and emphasized the personal significance of returning to South America, where he spent important periods of his life.

The Vatican highlighted that the visit will be an opportunity for the pope to strengthen ties with local churches and encourage the faithful. Despite a recent preventive cancellation of a helicopter visit to Assisi due to unpressurized air concerns, the South America trip will proceed as planned, including all scheduled public appearances and religious ceremonies.
