The Happy Mums Foundation, which supports women experiencing postpartum mental health challenges, has secured £70,000 in grants to maintain its in-person wellbeing groups, BBC Health reported.

The organisation, established in 2015 and having helped over 1,000 families in Cumbria, had been at risk of moving its peer support groups online due to funding pressures.

Director Lucinda Bray expressed relief that the funding from the Postcode Lottery (£50,000) and the National Lottery (£20,000) has lifted the immediate risk, allowing the continuation of safe, real-world spaces for vulnerable women.

Bray highlighted the importance of in-person groups as safe spaces where women can discuss suicidal thoughts, a preventative factor for worsening mental health.

The foundation plans to use the grants not only to continue current groups but also to work on making the organisation more sustainable in the future.
