RNC spends $50 million to support GOP candidates ahead of midterms
The Republican National Committee is investing $50 million to aid GOP efforts despite polling challenges.
The Republican National Committee (RNC) is injecting $50 million into campaigns supporting Republican candidates in the final weeks before the upcoming midterm elections, according to reports from The Hill and Yahoo News.
Since mid-August, the RNC has transferred over $44 million to the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) and the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC), with the funds split evenly between the two committees. An additional $6 million is expected before Election Day.
The NRCC reported raising $50 million in the third quarter, including $28.5 million in September, which featured a $14 million transfer from the RNC. This gives the NRCC a financial advantage over the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) by more than $2 million.
This financial boost is partly attributed to a Supreme Court ruling that loosened campaign spending restrictions, allowing greater coordinated spending between party committees and candidates. The RNC also entered September with $126 million, supported by fundraising efforts led by prominent Republican figures.
Despite the financial advantage, polling data from Decision Desk HQ, cited by The Hill, indicates that Democrats lead Republicans on the generic congressional ballot. Democrats have a 56 percent chance of winning the Senate majority and a 77 percent chance of winning the House majority.
The RNC's spending aims to help Republicans maintain control of Congress, but current polling suggests significant challenges remain.
