Sen. Chris Murphy hospitalized after stroke, doctors optimistic
Connecticut Senator Chris Murphy was hospitalized after a stroke and is responding well to treatment, his office said.
Senator Chris Murphy, a Democrat from Connecticut, was hospitalized Saturday after experiencing a stroke, according to his spokesperson, Allison Herwitt, NBC News reported.
Murphy began feeling numbness in his arm while attending his son's hockey game and was initially taken to a local hospital, where the stroke was diagnosed, CBS News reported.
He was then transferred to Johns Hopkins Hospital for further monitoring and treatment. His doctors are encouraged by his progress, and he remains awake and alert, according to both NBC News and CBS News.
Murphy's office expressed optimism that he will make a full recovery. The senator had been scheduled to campaign in New Hampshire alongside a Democratic Senate nominee.
Murphy has served as a Connecticut senator since 2013 and was considered a possible 2028 presidential contender, having recently campaigned for Democrats in midterm elections, CBS News noted.
