Baltimore braces for severe weather with damaging winds up to 70 mph
A massive cold front will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to Baltimore and the I-95 corridor today.
Baltimore is among the cities in the Northeastern U.S. preparing for severe weather as a massive cold front moves through the region, according to FOX Weather and reports from NewsRadio 1110 KFAB and other sources. Residents can expect damaging winds that may reach up to 70 mph, heavy rain, and thunderstorms throughout the day.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has issued a Level 2 out of 5 risk for severe thunderstorms affecting parts of the Delmarva Peninsula, which includes the Baltimore area. The main threat is strong damaging winds, with a brief potential for tornadoes.
Rainfall is expected to pause mid-morning, which could allow some daytime heating and intensify thunderstorms during the afternoon. The heaviest rain is forecast to impact the Interstate 95 corridor, including Baltimore, during the evening commute, according to the New York Post.
Following the storm, the coldest air of the season is expected to arrive by Saturday morning, with a freeze anticipated overnight. While the coldest temperatures will be felt further north in New England, Baltimore residents should prepare for a significant weather change and potentially hazardous conditions during the storm.
By midday Saturday, wind gusts are expected to decrease to 20 to 30 mph, bringing drier conditions. However, light rain could continue in some areas beyond Baltimore, stretching into the Great Lakes and New England regions.
