Election officials across California, including those in the Bay Area, have raised doubts about the accuracy of the federal government's approach to identifying noncitizen voters, Palo Alto Online reported.

This scrutiny comes after the Trump administration threatened California counties with criminal charges related to alleged noncitizen voting.

Counties were given a 48-hour deadline to decide whether to cooperate with federal authorities on this matter, according to the report.

Local officials have expressed concerns about the methodology used by the federal government, questioning its validity and accuracy in determining noncitizen voter registrations.
