Cowboys lose after leading by 14 points in fourth quarter for first time since 2000
Dallas Cowboys lost to Arizona Cardinals 33-30 in overtime despite leading by 14 points late in the game.
The Dallas Cowboys lost to the Arizona Cardinals 33-30 in overtime on Sunday, marking their first loss since 2000 when leading by at least 14 points in the fourth quarter at home, NBC News reported.
Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott ran in a touchdown with more than 14 minutes left in the fourth quarter, putting Dallas ahead 24-10. Historically, the Cowboys had a perfect 69-0 record in such situations, according to ESPN.
Despite the lead, Dallas' defense allowed 20 points in the fourth quarter. Arizona's backup quarterback Gardner Minshew led the comeback after the Cardinals benched their starter.
The game went to overtime after Arizona missed a point-after kick with 6 seconds left in regulation that would have won the game outright. This was the Cowboys' second improbable loss this season, following a previous late defeat in Week 3.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones showed frustration after the loss but said firing coach Brian Schottenheimer was not being considered amid the team's 3-5 start, NBC News reported.
