CPSC warns against using HAIARA W5 PRO power banks after fire reports
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission advises stopping use of HAIARA W5 PRO power banks amid hundreds of fire and explosion incidents.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning for consumers to immediately stop using HAIARA power banks, specifically the model W5 PRO, following numerous reports of fire, explosions, burn injuries, and property damage, according to fox26houston.com and fox5atlanta.com.
These power banks are black with "20W" printed on the front and have a side label stating "Model: W5 PRO." While the HAIARA brand name appears on some purchase receipts, it is not printed on the product itself. The warning applies to units without a date code on the side label, as noted on the CPSC website.
The products were manufactured in China, but the manufacturer has not responded to CPSC requests for a recall or further information. Among sellers, one Amazon seller named Mitrytech has agreed to a recall, but others, including Geralde-US and Woot, have not responded or have refused to conduct a recall.
The CPSC has received approximately 600 reports of incidents involving these power banks, including three burn injuries and nine cases of property damage. The agency strongly advises consumers not to sell or give away these hazardous products.
Consumers are urged to dispose of the power banks according to hazardous waste disposal procedures in their area. The CPSC specifically warns against throwing the devices or lithium-ion batteries in regular trash, general recycling, or used battery recycling boxes, due to the increased fire risk associated with defective lithium-ion batteries.
