DOJ investigates Corey Lewandowski's DHS contracting activities
Justice Department probes Corey Lewandowski's role in DHS contracts after inspector general referral.
The Justice Department is investigating Corey Lewandowski, a longtime ally of former President Donald Trump, over his actions related to contracting activities at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) during the first year of the second Trump administration, ABC News reported.
Lewandowski served as a senior adviser and de facto chief of staff to former DHS Secretary Kristi Noem until both were ousted from the department in March, CBS News reported. The probe follows a referral from DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari regarding Lewandowski's conduct.
The investigation is examining allegations that Lewandowski used his DHS position for financial gain connected to contracts established under Noem's tenure, according to CBS News. Lewandowski has denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged with a crime, his attorney told both ABC News and CBS News.
President Donald Trump said he was not briefed on the specifics of the investigation but emphasized the importance of honesty among his associates. He stated that dishonesty should be prosecuted and that he wants his people to be honest, according to ABC News and CBS News.
Before their departure, some senior DHS officials reportedly complained about micromanagement of contracts and operational decisions by Noem and Lewandowski, CBS News reported. The Justice Department declined to comment, and DHS has not publicly responded to requests for comment.
