Newly released body camera video reveals the moments before a Mississippi police officer fired into a vehicle, killing a 1-year-old boy who was sitting on his mother's lap, CBS News reported.

The incident occurred in June after police responded to an alleged shoplifting of diapers by the child's mother, an accusation she denies, according to CBS News.

This week, the state's attorney general concluded that the officer who fired the fatal shot was justified in using deadly force, CBS News added.

The footage, shared by CBS News, provides new insight into the encounter that led to the child's death in a Walmart parking lot.

Authorities continue to review the case following the release of the body camera video.
