Firefighters from across North Carolina and around the country assembled Saturday in Burlington to honor Durham firefighter Andrew Brokes, ABC11 WTVD reported.

A fire truck carrying Brokes led a procession to a church in Burlington before the funeral service, where his body was brought inside, according to WTVD.

Durham Fire Chief Bob Zoldos said firefighters traveled from as far as California and Boston, as well as throughout North Carolina, to attend services over two days.

Zoldos expressed hope that the widespread support would bring comfort to Brokes' family, emphasizing the importance of Brokes' career and its meaning to the community.

Meanwhile, multiple fire departments in the Durham area, including Knightdale, provided coverage so Durham firefighters could attend the services, and local businesses showed support for the firefighting community.
