A substitute teacher from Flagler Beach was arrested after allegedly kicking a student with disabilities at Matanzas High School, according to WKMG News 6 ClickOrlando.

The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office reported that Bryan Schewitz, 60, was involved in the incident during which he forcefully moved the student into a chair and told the student, “The gloves are off.” Witnesses described Schewitz as being too rough and said he kicked the student in the leg, leaving a large mark.

Schewitz reportedly told deputies the student kicked him first, and he kicked back, but gave conflicting statements about the incident. The student’s mother provided photos showing skin missing from the child’s leg.

Flagler Schools Superintendent LaShakia Moore stated the behavior would not be tolerated, and Sheriff Rick Staly emphasized that striking a student out of anger is unacceptable. Schewitz was charged with child abuse without great bodily harm and was released on bond after being booked into jail.
