Former congressional candidate Elijah Manley jailed on social media death threat charges
Elijah Manley faces two counts of making written threats after his August election loss in Broward County.
Elijah Manley, a 27-year-old former congressional candidate from Fort Lauderdale, surrendered to Broward County authorities and was booked into jail on two counts of making written threats to kill or cause bodily injury, CBS News Miami reported.
The charges stem from a series of Facebook posts Manley made shortly after losing his August election, according to an arrest warrant obtained by CBS News Miami. Investigators said Manley threatened harm to individuals who did not support the Democratic nominee for Senate and made additional threatening comments tagging two people.
Manley told investigators the comments were not actual threats but part of a political disagreement, describing them as a challenge to others' political views rather than intent to cause harm, CBS News Miami noted.
The Broward State Attorney's Office requested the case be reassigned to another state attorney's office because the alleged victims had previously participated in charitable drives benefiting the office. Manley's bond was set at $40,000, and he remained in jail pending release, CBS News Miami reported.
WPLG Local 10 also covered the story, confirming Manley faces two counts of intimidation related to the alleged threats made on social media.
