France prepares for separate student and Yellow Vest protests amid unrest
Students and unions plan authorized march against living costs; Yellow Vests call for banned rally in Paris.
France is preparing for a fourth consecutive weekend of mass protests, with student groups and labor unions organizing an authorized march in central Paris against the high cost of living and in support of young people, DW English reported.
At the same time, the Yellow Vest movement, known for violent protests eight years ago, is planning a separate demonstration at Paris' Place de la Concorde despite a police ban, according to DW English.
Authorities are deploying 70,000 police and security personnel across the country to manage the protests and are prepared for potential rioting and looting, said French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, as cited by DW English.
The protests follow weeks of youth-led unrest and nationwide strikes involving hundreds of thousands of workers protesting rising living costs, France 24 English reported.
The situation escalated notably on October 17, when violent riots caused over a billion euros in damage to public and private property, DW English noted.
