Group begins recall effort against San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria
A group has launched the formal process to recall Mayor Todd Gloria over housing and homelessness concerns.
A group led by criminal justice advocate Genevieve Jones Wright has initiated the formal process to recall San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, KPBS reported. The group alleges that Mayor Gloria has failed to adequately address issues related to housing and homelessness in the city.
According to the Times of San Diego, the group filed a Notice of Intent to recall Mayor Gloria on October 29, which was published in the San Diego Daily Transcript on Election Day, November 3. This publication marks the official start of the recall process.
The notice must be formally served to Mayor Gloria by November 8 and to the city clerk by November 13. Mayor Gloria will then have the opportunity to respond to the reasons for the recall petition, with his response to be published by November 17.
Once the recall petition is allowed to circulate, the group will have 120 days to collect signatures from at least 15% of registered voters in San Diego to qualify for a special election, the Times of San Diego reported.
