A funeral held at Open Bible Church on West Overlea Avenue in Baltimore's Overlea neighborhood turned chaotic on Saturday afternoon, culminating in gunfire that injured a 25-year-old man, The Baltimore Banner reported.

The memorial service concluded shortly before 1:45 p.m., when a large crowd gathered on the church steps, leading to shouting and pushing among dozens of people. Gunshots were then fired, prompting neighbors to call police.

Baltimore Police found the wounded man at the scene and emergency medical personnel transported him to a hospital. The man's condition and the circumstances that triggered the violence remain unclear as the investigation continues.

The church's pastor, Kevin English, said the service was not organized by his congregation but was a rental event. He was not present during the shooting but arrived soon after to learn about the incident.

Neighbors described the scene as chaotic, with some people running away through yards and others trying to assist the victim. Video footage from nearby cameras captured the rapid escalation from a funeral gathering to a violent confrontation.

Authorities are still probing the incident to determine what led to the outbreak of violence.
