IBM and partners release llm-d 1.0 to improve AI deployment efficiency
The open source llm-d 1.0 aims to help organizations scale AI inference cost-effectively across modern infrastructure.
IBM, along with Red Hat, Google Cloud, CoreWeave, and NVIDIA, announced the release of llm-d 1.0, a significant update to their open source project designed to enhance AI inference deployment and scaling, according to IBM's newsroom.
Founded in 2025 and governed by the Cloud Native Computing Foundation, llm-d addresses challenges organizations face in running AI at scale, such as performance, throughput, and infrastructure cost management.
The project supports complex infrastructure environments with features like hardware heterogeneity, advanced inference capabilities, and specialized caching and routing techniques to optimize AI workloads.
llm-d 1.0 is engineered to handle production realities including serving multiple tenants, balancing priorities, ensuring zero downtime, and supporting emerging agentic AI workloads within a unified suite.
