India's main opposition Congress party is organizing a large rally in Delhi to demand the resignation of the chief election commissioner and call for electoral reforms, BBC World reported.

The rally is set to begin around noon at Ramlila Maidan grounds, with leaders anticipating attendance of up to a million people. The Congress-led INDIA alliance and the Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) have pledged support for the event.

The protest arises amid widespread criticism of a voter-list revision exercise that has removed 130 million names from draft electoral rolls across India. The Election Commission of India states the revision aims to update voter lists by removing deceased individuals or those who have relocated.

Opposition parties allege that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise could unfairly benefit Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party by excluding eligible voters, accusing the chief election commissioner and BJP of "vote chori" or vote theft. Both the BJP and the Election Commission have denied these claims.
