Justice Department addresses Alaska election lawsuit amid claims of voter confusion
Attorney General Todd Blanche discusses the DOJ's preemptive lawsuit in Alaska concerning a candidate with a similar name to the incumbent senator.
Attorney General Todd Blanche spoke on CBS News' Face the Nation about the Justice Department's involvement in election matters, emphasizing that intervention only occurs if facts and law require it.
In Alaska, the Justice Department has filed a preemptive lawsuit that could block certification of election results if Senator Dan Sullivan loses, addressing concerns about voter confusion caused by a similarly named candidate on the ballot.
Attorney General Blanche clarified that it is not simply two candidates named Dan Sullivan running, but that the second Dan Sullivan is running to confuse voters and draw votes away from the incumbent senator, according to the head of the Alaska Election Commission.
President Trump was reported to have said he directed the lawsuit, but Blanche said that it was the Alaska Election Commission, not the President or himself, who identified the issue with the similarly named candidate.
