Lanessa Elrod has been appointed to lead Bergdorf Goodman, marking a return to the retailer where she previously worked, Retail Dive reported. Elrod has experience with all three Exemplar Luxury Group banners: Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, and Neiman Marcus.

Bergdorf Goodman, celebrating its 125th anniversary, is emphasizing continuity and institutional memory with Elrod's return. The company sees this move as advancing strategic priorities and strengthening Bergdorf's position in the luxury market, according to a statement from van Raemdonck.

Exemplar Luxury Group, formerly Saks Global, faced challenges last year after Saks acquired Neiman Marcus for $2.7 billion. While Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus dealt with vendor disputes and payment issues, Bergdorf Goodman maintained its status as a luxury leader on Manhattan’s Upper East Side.

Saks Global entered bankruptcy court in January and emerged in June as Exemplar Luxury Group, reducing its debt by about 75% to under $1 billion. Industry analysts have noted Bergdorf Goodman’s strong market position and potential value as an asset within the group.

Despite the upheaval, Bergdorf Goodman remained stable, though Saks Global lost its chief merchant Yumi Shin to Nordstrom this year. The retailer had dropped efforts to prevent her departure, indicating some impact from the broader corporate changes.
