Lincoln County has initiated a $235 million property buyout program aimed at residents living in potential flood zones, according to KOB. The program started after federal funding was approved for post-wildfire flooding recovery and is voluntary for property owners.

So far, six people have accepted buyout offers, with at least three property sales completed. The county has identified over 260 eligible properties and is conducting final reviews on dozens more.

The buyout program is designed to reduce flood risk by purchasing properties near rivers and eventually converting these areas back into green space. The county plans to proceed with demolition and restoration after completing offers.

County officials emphasized the program's unique scale and their commitment to implementing it effectively. Residents affected by flooding and ice storms have expressed relief and hope for safer relocation options.

Lincoln County continues to accept applications for the buyout program and offers assistance for people with disabilities who need help accessing information.
