Maine Democrat Troy Jackson stands by 'shut up' remark to Sen. Collins
Jackson denies involvement with protester who interrupted debate, says he won't be talked down to by Collins.
Maine Democrat Troy Jackson said he does not regret telling Republican Sen. Susan Collins to 'shut up' during their recent Senate debate, according to PBS NewsHour Politics.
The incident occurred after a protester interrupted the debate, and Collins suggested the demonstrator was a supporter of Jackson's campaign. Jackson denied knowing the protester and told Collins to 'shut up,' as reported by PBS NewsHour Politics.
Jackson told CNN he had no prior knowledge of the protester and that the Sunrise Movement, a left-wing advocacy group supporting the Green New Deal, claimed responsibility for the protest. The protester, a 19-year-old Bowdoin College student, told The New York Times he had no coordination with Jackson's campaign.
Jackson emphasized that he shook hands with Collins after each debate but said he would not allow himself to be talked down to by her, according to PBS NewsHour Politics.
