Nearly 400 run 5K in Cary to raise funds for Nepal flood relief
The Nepal Center of North Carolina organized a fundraiser race in Cary to support victims of devastating floods and landslides in Nepal.
Nearly 400 people gathered at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary on Sunday to participate in a 5K race aimed at raising money for victims of catastrophic flooding and landslides in Nepal, ABC11 WTVD reported.
The event was organized by the Nepal Center of North Carolina and brought together hundreds of runners to support families affected by the disaster. Organizers said the local effort had already raised nearly $70,000 for flood relief before the race, which is expected to add thousands more as recovery continues.
The flooding and landslides have caused widespread devastation across Nepal, washing away communities and leaving families without homes, schools, and access to basic necessities. Organizers described the affected areas as being buried under mud and debris, making rebuilding difficult.
According to ABC News, the death toll from the disaster has reached 1,287, with more than 5,000 people still unaccounted for. The focus of relief efforts is shifting from rescue operations to rebuilding communities.
Despite chilly weather Sunday morning, the community came together in Cary to raise awareness and funds for Nepal, with organizers emphasizing the importance of support that transcends national boundaries.
