NCSBI agent testifies in ninth day of Faith Hedgepeth murder trial in Durham
The trial of Miguel Salguero-Olivares for the 2012 murder of UNC student Faith Hedgepeth continues with key testimony from an SBI special agent.
The murder trial of Miguel Salguero-Olivares, accused in the 2012 death of UNC student Faith Hedgepeth, entered its fourth week with the ninth day of testimony on Monday, WRAL reported.
North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation special agent Justin Heinrich resumed his testimony Monday morning, continuing from Friday when he was qualified as an expert in cell phone record analysis, CBS17 reported.
Before Heinrich's testimony on Monday, the defense asked the judge to strike parts of his previous statements, including his opinions on a sexual assault and DNA evidence. The judge allowed the jury to disregard Heinrich's commentary linking unknown DNA to the crime but permitted other statements to stand, according to WRAL.
The defendant showed the strongest emotional response so far during the trial's fourth week, which follows eight days of jury selection and eight days of testimony, WRAL noted.
The trial is ongoing at the Durham County courthouse, with the prosecution presenting evidence and expert testimony to the jury.
