Person dies after late-night crash on Durham Freeway near Fayetteville Street

Durham Police are investigating a fatal incident involving a pedestrian on NC-147 Sunday night.

Durham Police responded to a crash scene on the Durham Freeway (NC-147) near Fayetteville Street just after 10 p.m. Sunday night, WRAL reported.

Officers found a person lying in the road who was pronounced dead at the scene. The vehicle involved was abandoned nearby, according to police.

It was later determined that the individual who died was possibly struck by a vehicle, and authorities are investigating how the vehicle is connected to the incident and the circumstances leading to the crash.

Southbound lanes of the highway were closed temporarily as officers conducted their investigation, WRAL added.
