Almost 200 nations reached agreement at the UN biodiversity summit held in Yerevan, Armenia, to halt biodiversity loss by 2030, France 24 reported.

The agreements were finalized after nearly two weeks of intense negotiations that extended into extra time on the final day of the COP17 conference.

Delegates celebrated the approval of the crucial texts, which aim to put the world back on track in efforts to stop nature's destruction, according to France 24.

The pact builds on a historic 2022 agreement that set ambitious targets, but the UN had warned that countries were falling short on key objectives such as protecting 30 percent of land and oceans, tackling pollution, and increasing conservation finance for poorer nations.

The COP17 draft text called for accelerated efforts and increased action to address the root causes of nature loss to keep the pact alive, France 24 added.
