New plans for Trump arch omit military complex but allow for it
Interior Department documents on Trump's proposed arch omit military complex details but say design can accommodate it.
New Interior Department documents on President Donald Trump's proposed Triumphal Arch do not mention the military complex he previously said it would host, according to the Boston Herald and WGAL.
The documents, which include site maps and renderings, were shared ahead of a National Capital Planning Commission meeting scheduled after the midterm elections on November 3. They cite the arch's 250-foot height as a commemorative feature for the nation's 250th anniversary.
Trump had said in September that the arch would be converted into a top-grade military complex storing drones, ammunition, and accommodating snipers at the military's request. However, the current plans do not specify these features.
An Interior Department spokesperson stated that although the plans do not detail the military complex, the design could still accommodate national security functions as highlighted by the president.
The arch is proposed for a circle near the Memorial Bridge connecting Washington, D.C., and northern Virginia. Like other Trump projects around the capital, it faces legal challenges, including those involving the White House ballroom, the Kennedy Center, and a golf course renovation that could limit public access to running paths.
