The NFL has expressed support for an investigation into how the Philadelphia Eagles managed quarterback Jalen Hurts' blood clots, Commissioner Roger Goodell said during a news conference at the league's annual fall meeting, according to PBS NewsHour.

Goodell noted that the league's chief medical officer, Dr. Allen Sills, reviewed the steps taken by the Eagles and affirmed that protocols were followed properly. He emphasized that the players' union had the right to request a review.

The NFL maintained communication with the Eagles' medical staff and the Cleveland Clinic in London, where the team played on October 11. League executive vice president Jeff Miller clarified that Hurts had adequate rest before the game, disputing reports of prolonged wakefulness.

Hurts is currently on injured reserve and expected to miss the remainder of the season after blood clots were found in his left calf and lungs. The Eagles and Hurts' agent confirmed diagnoses of deep vein thrombosis and bilateral pulmonary embolisms.

The NFL Players Association has called for a full investigation into the handling of Hurts' injury, while the league has defended the Eagles' medical staff and downplayed the impact of international travel on the situation.

Commissioner Goodell stressed the priority is Hurts' health and future, describing him as a valued player and person.

NBC News also reported on the NFL's defense of the Eagles and the players union's demand for investigation, highlighting ongoing scrutiny of the team's response to Hurts' condition.
