Pete Buttigieg endorses independent Seth Bodnar in Montana Senate race
Former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg endorsed independent Seth Bodnar over the Democratic nominee in Montana's Senate race.
Pete Buttigieg, former U.S. Transportation Secretary, has endorsed independent candidate Seth Bodnar in the Montana U.S. Senate race, according to CBS News and ABC News.
Bodnar, a retired U.S. Army Green Beret and former University of Montana president, is running against Democratic nominee Alani Bankhead and Republican nominee Kurt Alme.
Buttigieg praised Bodnar's leadership and service, stating that while they do not agree on everything, Bodnar has dedicated his life to serving the country and will bring strong character to the Senate on behalf of all Montanans.
Bodnar has said he will not caucus with either Democrats or Republicans if elected, choosing to remain independent.
Montana is considered a solidly Republican state, and Bodnar's independent platform has drawn support from across the political spectrum, leading some Democrats to call for Bankhead to drop out to improve Bodnar's chances.
The seat opened after Republican Senator Steve Daines announced he would not seek reelection, prompting increased attention from both parties, including campaign rallies by former President Trump and Vice President JD Vance.
The race remains competitive as both Bodnar and Bankhead remain on the ballot, potentially splitting the non-Republican vote.
