Real estate brokerages face training challenges despite growing agent numbers
Increasing agent headcount in brokerages does not address gaps in training and supervision, HousingWire reports.
HousingWire reported that real estate brokerages are experiencing challenges in adequately training their agents despite efforts to recruit more professionals. While recruiting increases the number of agents, many lack clear guidance on basic procedures necessary for real transactions and client interactions.
The outlet highlighted that prelicensing education provides foundational knowledge but does not prepare agents for real-world application, such as completing transaction paperwork or making judgment calls in complex situations. This gap underscores the need for effective supervision and ongoing training within brokerages.
According to HousingWire, a brokerage's growth should be evaluated based on how well agents are prepared to serve clients rather than simply by the number of agents employed. The report emphasized that unclear procedures often lead agents to rely on inconsistent practices or outdated methods.
An example shared involved a licensed agent with six years of experience who was unsure about the timing for delivering earnest money deposits, indicating that some training and development issues persist beyond initial onboarding.
HousingWire concluded that adding more agents without addressing these training deficiencies will not resolve the underlying problems and may make it easier to overlook critical cracks in agent preparedness.
