Sacramento County authorities arrested a local man, Gurinder Gill, on murder charges after finding the burned remains of his wife, Jasmine Gill, according to FoxLA and WorldTribune.

Jasmine Gill was last seen at her Sacramento home on September 30, 2026, and was reported missing by her cousin on October 4, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office confirmed to FoxLA.

Initially, Gurinder Gill claimed that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents had taken his wife while she was checking the mail. However, ICE confirmed no enforcement activity occurred at their residence, disproving his story, as reported by both sources.

Detectives found inconsistencies in Gurinder Gill's statements and learned the couple was involved in a divorce and child custody dispute. On October 1, burned human remains were found in neighboring El Dorado County and later identified as Jasmine Gill through jewelry recovered with the remains.

Gurinder Gill was arrested on October 14 and is being held in Sacramento County Main Jail without bail. Search warrants were executed at two residences associated with him, though authorities have not disclosed the exact cause of death or where the homicide occurred.

Jasmine Gill was remembered by family as a devoted daughter, sister, and mother who was building a healthcare career and seeking a divorce to create a safe environment for herself and her infant son, according to FoxLA.
