President Donald Trump announced that Stephen Miller will become his new White House chief of staff, replacing Susie Wiles, according to CBS News Los Angeles and LAist. This change comes shortly after the Republican Party lost control of Congress in the recent midterm elections. Trump described Miller as one of his most trusted advisors and praised Wiles for her service, stating she will continue working with his political operation.

Susie Wiles, who has served as Trump's chief of staff since his return to the White House and ran his 2024 presidential campaign, submitted her resignation following the midterm losses, as reported by CBS News Los Angeles. Wiles expressed pride in her accomplishments alongside the president, including efforts to secure the border, cut taxes, and strengthen the economy, and affirmed her ongoing commitment to the president and his mission.

Stephen Miller, a longtime aide to Trump and key architect of the administration's immigration enforcement policies, is expected to begin his new role on Monday. Trump characterized Miller as politically skilled and a strong manager. Wiles was the first woman to serve as Trump's chief of staff and is noted as his longest-serving in that position, according to LAist.

Wiles' departure also follows her public announcement earlier this year that she was in remission from breast cancer after treatment. The White House has not clarified whether Wiles' deputies will remain in their roles. This leadership change marks the most significant adjustment to Trump's team since the midterm election results.
