Families in the West Midlands have expressed worries about affording their energy bills this winter despite government assistance, BBC Business reported.

Chancellor John Healey announced a £100 household energy payment and plans to remove gas standing charges as part of a broader cost of living package.

Residents like Kelly Birkett, a personal accountant and mother, said while grateful for the £100 payment, it is quickly absorbed by other living costs, leaving families no better off.

Birkett noted that as temperatures drop, heating will be necessary, and families are already considering cutting back on other expenses to manage.

Chancellor Healey described the Budget measures as providing families with "breathing space," but concerns remain among households about the adequacy of the support for the winter season.
