A pedestrian was fatally struck by a sedan turning from a gas station on West Manchester Avenue, LAPD says.
Los Angeles Police Department is investigating a hit-and-run crash that killed a 66-year-old man in South Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon, KTLA 5 and CBS News Los Angeles reported.
The collision occurred just after 3:45 p.m. near a gas station on West Manchester Boulevard, close to South Broadway. LAPD detectives said a gray, four-door sedan struck the pedestrian while negotiating a westbound turn from the gas station.
According to LAPD, the driver initially left the scene, continuing west on Manchester Avenue, but was flagged down by bystanders who informed him of the collision. The driver returned and stayed until paramedics arrived but left before police officers came, failing to provide required information.
The victim was transported to a nearby hospital by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics and was later pronounced dead. The victim's identity has not been publicly released.
Police are seeking the driver and have announced a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the suspect's identification, arrest, and conviction through LA's Administrative Code Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. Authorities urge anyone with information to contact the South Traffic Division detectives at 323-421-2500.
