A lawsuit filed Monday in federal court in New York challenges President Donald Trump's ban on certain media outlets from White House premises, arguing that it infringes on the public's right to independent news coverage, WTOP reported.

The suit, brought on behalf of six citizens including educators, journalists, and advocates, claims that the bans not only violate press freedoms but also harm the democratic public by limiting access to diverse reporting about the government.

According to WTOP, the plaintiffs rely on independent White House reporting for their professional and educational work, emphasizing that the First Amendment protects the public's right to know what its government is doing.

The complaint details ongoing legal battles by news organizations such as CNN, MSNBC, and Politico, whose journalists were banned from the White House in September, with a federal judge recently extending an order preventing enforcement of the ban while the case proceeds.
