Senate Majority Leader Thune campaigns to help Republicans retain Senate majority
John Thune is actively campaigning with Republican candidates in key Senate races ahead of midterm elections to maintain party control.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune has been traveling across the country to support Republican candidates in important Senate races as the party aims to keep its majority, PBS NewsHour Politics reported.
In Iowa, Thune campaigned alongside Representative Ashley Hinson, who is in a close race against Democrat Josh Turek to succeed retiring Republican Senator Joni Ernst. Hinson expressed appreciation for Thune's support during their joint events, which included a luncheon, a military base visit, a business roundtable, and a high school football game meet-and-greet.
Thune acknowledged the challenges Republicans face, including criticism from the party base and President Donald Trump over the Senate's failure to pass voter legislation this year. Despite this, he emphasized the importance of delivering a clear choice to voters between two different paths.
The stakes are high in Iowa and other traditionally Republican states, where voters are expressing concerns about issues such as Trump's policies, the war in Iran, and rising prices for gasoline and groceries. Democrats remain hopeful of winning the Senate, with candidates like Turek positioning themselves as bipartisan voices.
Hinson recognizes voter concerns but remains focused on winning to preserve the Republican majority, underscoring the critical nature of the upcoming midterm elections.
