Thousands of observers to monitor polls amid concerns over Election Day interference
Democrats and watchdog groups plan extensive monitoring efforts on Election Day amid concerns about federal interference.
Democrats and various outside watchdog organizations are preparing for a significant presence at polling places on Election Day, according to WTOP.
This effort is driven by concerns that President Donald Trump might use federal government resources to interfere with the midterm elections, which could impact his remaining time in office, WPLG Local 10 and WCBD Count on 2 reported.
The Democratic National Committee has established a cybersecurity unit staffed by former CIA and FBI officials to monitor and report misinformation, including AI deepfakes, WTOP reported.
The effort includes training volunteers to observe polling locations and report suspicious activities, with involvement from groups such as Common Cause, the American Civil Liberties Union, state Democratic parties, and national activist organizations, WTOP added.
The Department of Justice is also deploying its largest-ever monitoring program, alongside Republican-aligned groups' observers, creating an unprecedented level of election oversight, WTOP noted.
Despite President Trump's allegations of cheating, administration and military officials have stated they do not plan to deploy immigration agents or troops at polling sites, according to WTOP.
Democratic leaders have also assembled a legal team to address potential election-related issues, marking a comprehensive approach to election protection not seen before, WTOP reported.
