Ohio Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton spoke to ABC News after a rally in Cleveland with former President Barack Obama, urging President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance to 'look at the facts' regarding an attack ad from GOP candidate Vivek Ramaswamy's campaign, ABC News reported.

The ad features Acton's estranged mother, Donna Arthur, who claims Acton has lied about her past. Acton has alleged that her mother's second husband sexually abused her as a child, charges that led to criminal filings and Acton's testimony, according to ABC News. Her stepfather pleaded not guilty but fled before trial and died in 2004.

Trump and Vance have defended the controversial ad, which has drawn bipartisan backlash, CBS News reported. Acton told ABC News she hopes for bipartisan cooperation to solve problems rather than create them.

Acton has not seen her mother since she was 12 years old and said she and her brother endured 'extreme child abuse,' according to ABC News. The controversy unfolded as Obama campaigned alongside Acton in Cleveland, CBS News noted.
