Security footage challenges husband's account of wife's fatal shooting in Alabama

CBS News reported that on November 15, 2022, Savannah Tolbert was found fatally shot in the front seat of a red Tesla outside a store in Huntsville, Alabama, where her husband, David Tolbert, worked. According to the report, David Tolbert told investigators he discovered his wife after opening the car door, appearing shocked and upset on security camera footage from the store.

Police body cameras and dashcam videos captured the frantic scene as officers arrived. Store owners observed David Tolbert with tears in his eyes and his hands in his pockets. Investigators Jeff Kreiter and Greg Hayden from the Huntsville Police Major Crimes Unit were assigned to the case to gather information from witnesses.

Investigator Greg Hayden noted inconsistencies in the scene that did not align with a suicide. Savannah Tolbert was found sitting upright in the passenger seat with her head tilted to the left, holding a gun in her right hand, while the bullet wound was on the left side in the back of her head. First responders also noted her fingers curled around the gun, which raised suspicion.

Authorities found a shell casing on the rear seat behind the driver, and the gun was confirmed to belong to Savannah Tolbert. The Tesla was seized for forensic testing as investigators continued to seek information about what happened before her death.

The Huntsville Police continue to prioritize gathering witness information to clarify the circumstances surrounding Savannah Tolbert's death.
