A recent thwarted massacre allegedly targeting Hindu Americans has drawn attention to a growing wave of anti-Indian hate in the United States, according to reports from ksmu.org, aspenpublicradio.org, and kunc.org.

Rohit Chopra, a professor at Santa Clara University and visiting fellow at Stanford University, noted that such large-scale targeting of South Asians has not been seen before. He explained that over the past four years, a shift has occurred from the previous 'model minority' narrative to one marked by conspiracist and dehumanizing portrayals of Indian Americans and other South Asians.

Prasiddha Sudhakar, a board member of the Network Contagion Research Institute and former researcher there, emphasized that this toxic rhetoric has moved rapidly from fringe social media to mainstream platforms, increasing its reach across society. Both Sudhakar and Chopra see strong links between online hate and real-world violence.

The suspect in the recent Illinois case, charged with making a terrorist threat and unlawful possession of a rifle, was reported by coworkers who helped prevent the attack. This incident illustrates the tangible dangers posed by the rising hate, as observed by experts based in the San Jose area.

These developments highlight challenges faced by the South Asian community locally and nationally, underscoring the importance of awareness and preventive measures against hate-driven violence.
