Kelly Shields, a senior at Broadneck High School in Arnold, was recognized for her quick actions during a car accident on U.S. Route 50 in late August, FOX45 Baltimore reported.

Shields noticed a car severely damaged with the driver unconscious and immediately pulled over to check the man’s pulse. She removed him from the smoking vehicle and called 911, staying with him as he regained consciousness.

At the time, Shields was dressed in scrubs and told responding officers she was a high school senior working toward nursing certifications at the Center of Applied Technology South, according to WBFF.

During a recent Board of Education meeting, Shields received four citations, including one from Maryland Governor Wes Moore, acknowledging her life-saving efforts.

This recognition highlights the impact of local students pursuing healthcare careers and their ability to respond effectively in emergencies.
