Brody Richardson, a 20-year-old man from Boyds, was sentenced to five years in prison for a July 2025 car crash in Montgomery County that killed 71-year-old Mary Elizabeth Moody, The Baltimore Banner reported. In addition to prison, Richardson will serve five years of supervised probation upon release, according to the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Richardson pleaded guilty to grossly negligent manslaughter by motor vehicle and homicide by motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol, the Banner stated. The crash occurred on Great Seneca Highway when Richardson's Mazda 3, traveling northbound at about 94 mph, struck Moody’s Subaru Forester as she made a left turn onto Mateny Road.

Investigations revealed Richardson had a blood alcohol concentration of .20, twice the legal limit, and admitted to consuming alcohol and cannabis before driving, FOX45 Baltimore reported. Surveillance footage and a receipt from Travilah Beer & Wine in Rockville showed Richardson drank five beers between 6:57 p.m. and 10:17 p.m., just minutes before the crash.

Two employees of the store, William Bolek and Richard Bolek, pleaded guilty to selling alcohol to a person under 21 and were sentenced to three years of supervised probation and 200 hours of community service, according to prosecutors cited by FOX45 Baltimore.

Mary Elizabeth Moody was remembered as a beloved sister, aunt, and teacher who spent over 40 years in the classroom, FOX45 Baltimore noted. The sentencing took place on October 30, 2026, concluding the legal proceedings related to the fatal crash.
