Charleston-based TMGOC Ventures rebrands as Montford Group
Charleston hotel investment firm TMGOC Ventures adopts new name Montford Group, reflecting its local roots and growth.
Charleston hotel investment firm TMGOC Ventures has changed its name to Montford Group, according to the Post and Courier. The rebranding ties the growing company's identity back to co-founder Sunju Patel’s Charleston roots, where he began building his real estate business.
The firm represents about $1.5 billion in existing investments and development projects, including more than 4,233 hotel rooms across the U.S. Despite the new name, the company's ownership, leadership, investment strategy, and portfolio remain the same.
Patel described the Montford name as a nod to the firm's Charleston origins, noting it was the name of his firm before TMGOC Ventures. The company was formed in 2022 when Patel partnered with Glenn Alba of Florida-based Opterra Capital, combining their platforms.
One of their local projects includes the 131-room Moxy Charleston Downtown hotel at 547 Meeting Street, which opened in 2023. The firm has since expanded its investments beyond Charleston, continuing to grow its real estate platform.
The rebranding reflects the firm's evolution while maintaining its foundation and commitment to investment discipline, Patel said in a press release.
